Winifred “Winnie” King Case lifelong resident of Independence, Missouri moved to her heavenly home on June 25, 2025.
Winnie's life will be honored during a visitation at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church located at 15200 E 39th St. S., Independence, MO 64055 on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM, with funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Winnie was born on March 17, 1930 to Orville and Grace Taylor King of Independence, Missouri. She met her future husband Vernon “Bill” Case of Independence at a Youth For Christ event in Kansas City, they later married in July 1951.
A remarkable woman whose vibrant spirit and unwavering commitment to God through her church, community and family defined her existence, Winnie leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Winnie graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO then continued her education graduating from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, and William Jewel College in Liberty, MO.
Winnie’s teaching career began in Kearney, Missouri then Liberty and Independence Public Schools. She went on to pursue various roles that showcased her versatility; from working as a switchboard operator for Montgomery Wards, Medical Center of Independence and Park Lane Hospitals to working at Ferrell’s Hallmark Cards for many years. Her industrious spirit permeated everything she touched.
Beyond her professional ventures, Winnie’s passions painted the tapestry of her life. As a lively and active individual, she poured her energy into community endeavors and church activities, she loved participating in softball and bowling leagues with her church. Her warm-hearted nature and sociable disposition made her a beloved member of the church and her wider community. Genealogy intrigued her deeply—Winnie delighted in visiting historic landmarks and cemeteries during vacations, fueled by an insatiable thirst for history. Creativity flowed through her hands as she engaged in quilting, scrapbooking, stamp collecting and meticulously solving jigsaw puzzles. Her involvement didn’t stop there; she was deeply involved in missions at Immanuel Baptist Church working actively with Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and leading young girls and teens in GA’s and Acteens. She was also an active member of several organizations including the Independence Young Matrons, Jackson County Historical Society, Jackson County Genealogy Society, James Kearney Daughters of 1812, Mary Ball Washington Daughters of the American Colonists, Jamestowne Society, Fort Osage Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, championing causes that held significant meaning to her.
Winnie's passing was preceded by her parents, Orville and Grace King; her beloved husband, Vernon Case; and her grandson, Casey Joe Wapskineh. Her legacy of love lives on through her three daughters, Karen Case, Kendra Case, and Kyla Case; her grandchildren, Shane Wapskineh (Kyla), Jessica Sidebottom (Shane), and Christy Ledford; and her great-grandchildren, Layla Wapskineh, Ella Wapskineh, Calla Wapskineh, Wyatt Sidebottom, Reed Sidebottom, Cole Sidebottom, Asher Ledford, and Addison Ledford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Winnie's memory to The Baptist Friendship House serving homeless women and children and fighting against human trafficking in New Orleans, LA. The Baptist Friendship House was near and dear to our parents where they had opportunities to serve and support the mission work.
