George W. Winkinhofer
George W. Winkinhofer, 86, Kansas City, MO passed away Jan. 18, 2010 at The Groves in Independence, MO, following a short illness. Services will be at 2 pm, Friday, Jan. 22 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will begin one hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to The Groves, 1415 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050.
George was born in Parsons, KS on Feb. 24, 1923. He was an Army veteran of WW II, parachuting in the heat of battle many times. He then worked for Hallmark Cards for a short time and then for Bendix for many years. He a was devoted member and Elder of the Community of Christ Church in Independence and volunteered at The Groves for close to twenty years as chaplain, including one year as pastor.
George is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Shirley Stover Winkinhofer of the home; his son Kenneth, daughter-in-law Sherry and granddaughter Elizabeth Winkinhofer of Smithville, MO; brother-in-law Bob Stover of Climax Springs, MO. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassion and loving care from the staff at The Groves for the time George spent in their care.
