John Lewiston Winscott, 71, Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012 at Ft. Scott National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Three Rivers Hospice.
John was born January 15, 1941 in Nevada, MO the son of Roy Levi and Nellie Alberta (Allen) Winscott. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. John retired in 1991 from the General Motors Leeds plant and was a member of the UAW Local #93. He later worked for the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence. John also enjoyed woodworking and genealogy research which coordinated with his love of family.
He was preceded in death by his son Cary Winscott in 2008; sisters; Lil Kersten, Blanche Brown, Della Baxter and his parents.
Survivors include his son, Troy Winscott; grandson, Ryan Sishc; brother, Don “Bud” Winscott; sister, Hazel Winscott and numerous nieces and nephews.
