August H. Witte, 97, passed away on July 7 at the White Oak Living Center at the Groves in Independence. Visitation will be Saturday, July 12 from 12-1:00 PM with Funeral Services following at 1:00 PM at The Groves Community Room; interment in Mound Grove Cemetery. August was born August 28, 1910 in Frederick, OK to Gustave A. and Augusta C. Witte. August worked in the accounting department for the Community of Christ Church (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) for 39 years before retiring in 1976. He was ordained to the office of Elder in 1941 and was a charter member of the College Park Community of Christ congregation, which he attended for over 50 years. A long time supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, he was associated with Troop 203 for over 50 years and served in various capacities as a committeeman, troop chaplain, and assistant scoutmaster. He was a member of the tribe of Mic-O-Say. He had a great love of the out-of-doors and spent many happy hours camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. He was a strong supporter of the Missouri Conservation Department, the Conservation Federation of Missouri and the Audobon Society. August loved his family and he loved life. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to College Park Boy Scout Troop 203 or the City Union Mission. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Frederick Witte and Victor Witte. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alta M. Witte; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Jeannie Witte of Raymore, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn M. and LD Harsin of Independence, MO; one granddaughter, Natalie Holick and husband Bill of Shawnee, KS; one grandson, Kevin Witte of Kansas City, MO; two great-granddaughters, Reagan and Audrey; and many extended family. Words cannot adequately convey the appreciation August’s family feels for the loving care given to him by his angels from Integrity Home Care. Special thanks also to the wonderful Groves Hospice staff and to the staff and fellow residents of White Oak Living Center who surrounded us all with love and support.
