John Wood

John Suiter Wood, 88, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Rosewood Health Care Center. John was born July 20, 1921 to Lee and Mayme (Suiter) Wood in Kansas City, MO. He spent much of his childhood in Iconium, MO before returning to the area. John worked as a warehouse man for Milgram Food for more than 39 years before his retirement in 1981. An avid hunter and fisherman, John loved the outdoors and also enjoyed bowling and horseshoes. He was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church in Independence and was proud to be a Teamster. John was preceded in death by his wife Nellie Wood; son Darrell Wood; and brother Raymond Wood. He is survived by his son David Wood and wife Rose of Olathe, KS; daughter Phyllis Henderson and husband Leland of Independence, MO; daughter-in-law Lita Wood of San Antonio, TX; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Sunday July 18 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. Services will begin at 2:00 PM Monday July 19 at the Chapel with burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
