Ross Wyss

Ross B. Wyss, 86, of Independence, MO passed away September 9, 2009. He was born in rural Moniteau County, MO on July 19, 1923, and later moved to Richmond, MO. On November 23, 1941, he was married to Lorraine (Yoakum) Wyss, and they were married for 63 years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, during WWII and following his discharge, lived in Independence, MO. Ross and his wife were the owners of R.B. Wyss Construction and I-70 Development until their retirement in 1987. He was past president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City and past president of the Independence Builders and Developers Association. Ross was a member of the Independence First Christian Church, as well as the Richmond Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shrine. Known as “Pa” by his grandkids, he could catch any fish and he could fix anything. Absolutely anything! Ross is survived by his son, Larry Ross Wyss and wife Sheila; daughter, Kay Wyss Taylor and husband Doug; four grandchildren, Max C. Ross Wyss, Anna Wyss Hooper, William Taylor and James Bennington Taylor; one great grandson, Corbin Ross Wyss; one brother, Milford Wyss of Richmond, MO; two sisters, Frances Dewell of Quincy, IL and Lila Haendiges of Palmer, MA. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorraine (Yoakum) Wyss; mother, Lylia (Miller) Wyss; and father, J. Fred Wyss. A memorial visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. The family suggests memorial donations be made to either Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, or the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Ross would also want you to take a kid fishing!
