Yong Ae Herndon, age 86, passed away on February 18th, 2026 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, surrounded by friends and loved ones.

Yong Ae was born in Seoul, South Korea on October 10th, 1939, and made the decision to immigrate to the United States in the late 1960s. Though the life of an immigrant wasn’t easy, she faced the challenges ahead of her with grit and resilience, working hard to build a life for herself and her family.

A passionate football enthusiast, Yong Ae made sure to watch every game that her favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs, played. She was always the most impassioned voice in the room, hollering encouragement when the players were struggling, and celebrating when they scored. Her spiritedness extended to regular gatherings with friends and family, where they would play friendly games of cards for hours at a time, chatting and laughing as they did.

Yong Ae was well-traveled, visiting places all over the world. She returned to South Korea many times, in addition to numerous trips to countries in Europe such as Italy, and even making her way to frigid Alaska. She always made sure to bring back souvenirs to decorate her home with, and trinkets to give to family members.

She was host to a generous heart, caring for those around her even when times were tough. Throughout her life, she cultivated deep and lasting relationships, having no shortage of friends and an abundance of family members. Her loved ones were always at the forefront of her mind, and she was adored by those close to her for her unwavering compassion, fortitude, and honesty.

She is survived by her beloved sons Anthony Campbell (Tony), alongside Kenneth Campbell (Ken) and his wife Rosie; her grandchild, William Campbell (Will); and her sister, Yun Wendleton. Her death was preceded by her first husband, Donald Campbell, and her second husband, John Herndon, along with her parents and siblings.

Though she will be missed, Yong Ae will persist in the hearts and minds of those whose lives she touched. She will be remembered now and forevermore for the determination she held within herself and the joy she gave to others.

A visitation will be held on February 24th, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Both services will take place at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, located at 18020 East 39th St S in Independence, Missouri."
