Edward Charles Young, 86, of Independence, MO, passed away, Friday, January 8, 2010. He was born on April 25, 1923 to Charles and Teresa Young. He graduated from Rosedale High School and married his high school sweetheart Margaret Roberta. Ed was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII having served aboard the USS Boston. Upon discharge he worked for Wilcox Electric, Parmalee Plastics and retired from Allis-Chalmers in Independence. Ed was a member of the Independence Lodge #76 and the Directors Staff of the Ararat Shrine and a member of the Pleasant Grove Bible Church. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and hunting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his son Patrick Edward, his grandson, Ryan Edward Black, his parents, two sisters, Mary Alice Tremain and Florence Young. He is survived by his wife, Dorthea and her extended family; his daughter, Lynda (Jim) Black; a granddaughter, Erica (Jeremy) Williams and five great grandchildren, that always put a smile on his face, Morgan, Jeremy, James, Trevor and Trenton and his special niece Terri (Steve) Wallace. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO 64055. Private burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery with a tribute to be held on his birthday in April. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening with a Masonic service to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Ed’s name to Pleasant Grove Bible Church 4916 Lee’s Summit Road, Kansas City, MO, 64136, or Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
