Lucy B. Young, 86, Independence, MO passed away April 14, 2008. Services will be 10:30 am, Friday, April 18, 2008 at The Groves Community Room. Private committal services will take place at Mound Grove Mausoleum at a later date. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at Carson-Speaks Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Kansas City Hospice House.
Lucy was born June 13, 1921 in rural Iowa. Her family moved to Independence when she was a child and she grew up in the area. She was a graduate of William Chrisman High School. Lucy and Frederick Lee Young were married on March 28, 1941 and shared sixty-three years together. She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ. She worked for the I.R.S. and during WW II at the Lake City Munitions Plant. Lucy was also a member of the American Sewing Guild.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Lee Young in 2004; brother Donald Barber; sister Pauline Weathers; and brother-in-law Dave Cross. She is survived by daughters Krisna Kent, Mililani, HI; Andrea Sheffield and husband Stuart, Waukesha, WI; sister Marjorie Cross, Lee’s Summit, MO; grandson Capt. Ian Ashurst, USAF, and wife Janel, Las Vegas, NV; granddaughter Whitney Connell and husband John, Sunnyvale, CA; great-grandchildren Jason and Meghan Ashurst; and many nieces and nephews.
