Margaret A. Young, 91, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Rehabilitation Center of Independence. Margaret was born May 11, 1919 in Albert, CO. She grew up in Independence and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1937. After graduation she received her cosmetology certificate. Margaret moved to California and met her husband Carrol and they moved to Lamar, MO in 1950, living there until Carrol’s passing. She was a faithful member of the Community Christ Church where she was a long-term volunteer of the Laurel Club. She was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, elected in 1980, and traveled to Jefferson City to support citizens bills. In addition, she was a member of the Independence Business Women’s Association. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Carrol and daughters Gloria and Nancy. She is survived by a daughter Evelyn Gasper and husband Robert; five grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be from 12-1:00 PM Saturday, January 8 at East Alton Community of Christ, 16999 E. 23rd St., Independence. Services will begin 1:00 PM Saturday at the church with burial to follow at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Outreach International, PO Box 210, Independence, MO 64051.
