Mary L. Young, 86 of Independence, MO passed away, Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to Outreach International. Mary was born May 27, 1926 in Genoa, CO to Isaac F. and Elma Lucille (Milem) Bruch. She graduated from high school in Genoa and later attended Graceland College gradating with an Associates degree in business. She had worked as a caterer for weddings, taught cake decorating at Raytown high school for 20 years and was in inventory control for Greenstreet Interiors. She enjoyed painting, sewing and gardening. She was a longtime active member of the Community of Christ, New Walnut Park Congregation where she was in charge of the worship settings and decorations and really enjoyed church related activities. She was married to Chester Cebert Young in 1952 he preceded her in death in 1986. Survivors include; a daughter, Linda J. Winslow of Casper, WY; a son, James C. Young and wife Patty of Independence, MO; a sister, Dorothy Bruch Briggs of Portola Valley, CA; 3 grandchildren, Judy Bray, Melissa Oberdick and Heather Oberdick and 2 great grandchildren, Rhys Bray and William Sanders.
