Michael D. “Mike” Young, 59, Blue Springs, MO passed away May 11, 2013. Services will be 10 am, Friday, May 17 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment with Full Military Honors will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at the chapel. Kindly omit flowers. The family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., Kansas City, MO 64105. Mike was born Oct. 16, 1953 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Truman High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He began a twenty-four year military career as an aircraft electrician and taught helicopter mechanics. He was stationed in the Philippines, Texas, Panama and Virginia over his career before retiring as a Master Sgt. in 1994. Following his retirement from the Army, he worked as a supervisor at Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Liberty Assembly of God in Liberty, MO. He enjoyed meeting new people, and fishing. Most special to Mike was his relationship with his wife, Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a grandchild. He is survived by his wife of nearly forty years Linda Young, of the home; sons Chris Young, Liberty, MO; Joseph Young, Texas; daughter Kim Young, Blue Springs, MO; sister Anita Stockdall and husband George, Independence, MO; and six grandchildren.
