IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Zada Ellena
Thomas
November 1, 1932 – January 26, 2026
Zada Ellena Thomas, affectionately known as Ellena, took her final journey on January 26, 2026, in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, where she was surrounded by the love of her family. Born on November 1, 1932, in Kansas City, Ellena lived a life rich with creativity, warmth, and an unwavering devotion to her loved ones.
With a heart full of passion, Ellena cherished the time spent with her family, creating memories that will forever be treasured. Her hands were often busy with various crafts – from painting to quilting and sewing. Each stitch and brushstroke reflected her love, bringing joy not only to her but also to those fortunate enough to receive her handmade gifts. She had a gentle way of transforming simple materials into beautiful works of art that will continue to be a source of comfort and nostalgia.
Ellena found joy in the quiet moments of life, finding pleasure in the simple act of completing word searches that brought a spark of challenge and satisfaction. Her laughter echoed through the rooms spent with her best friends, Carol and Beverly, referred to as the 3 Amigos, where friendships blossomed and countless stories were shared.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Debbie Cunningham, Denise (Raj) Sadasivan, and Diane (John) Fletcher, who carry forward her spirit of kindness and creativity. Ellena also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jesse Northcutt, Jacob Northcutt, Annie Kennedy, Sean (Lauren) Fletcher, Shelby (Jordan) Ward, and Tracee Gulley, along with 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, who were truly the light of her life. Each generation felt the warmth of her embrace and the gentle guidance she provided. Ellena is also survived by her dear sister, Katherine White.
Ellena’s life was illuminated by the love and memories of those who have passed before her, including her first husband, Francis Eugene "Gene" Cunningham, her second husband, Edward Lawrence Thomas, and her beloved parents, William and Zada Huffaker. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lavelock, Frances Emberton, Elizabeth Christman, and Billie Jean Monaco, who now welcome her with open arms.
As we celebrate the life of this remarkable woman, we remember her for the love she bestowed upon her family and friends, the art she created, and the cherished memories that will bind all who knew her together in perpetuity. Zada Ellena Thomas may have departed from this world, but her legacy of love will forever remain etched in our hearts.
