Raymond R. Zion, 98, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, October 20th, 2015. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am Saturday, October 24th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am at the chapel. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Raymond was born October 7th, 1917 in Vernon, CO as one of seven children to Ralph J. and Lillie R. (Willoughby) Zion. His family moved to Ray, CO in a wagon. Raymond lived most of his life in Independence. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Vergine M. (Davis) on January of 1938 and had 73 loving years together before her death in 2011. They spent numerous winters in Brownsville, TX after his retirement. He worked for Armco Steel for 36 years. Outside of work he enjoyed water skiing, and fishing. Raymond was extremely active in his later years including shoveling his drive as of last year. Raymond was never the same after his wife’s passing. She was the love of his life. He was her sole caregiver during her illness for many years. His family remembers Raymond as a hard working man who provided well for his family.
Survivors include son, Larry Zion (Marinell) of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter, Delores Curtis (Gerald) of Independence, MO; sister, Lois Martin of Lee’s Summit, MO; numerous grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren who will miss him.
