Donald Zumwalt, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 PM, Sunday, April 20 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Services will be at 1:30 PM, Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 409 N. Liberty, Independence. The family suggests contributions to either St. Mary’s Manor or Trinity Episcopal Church.
Don was born June 24, 1922 in Kansas City, MO to Andrew and Lucille (Hensley) Zumwalt. He was a graduate of Northeast High School, class of 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he obtained rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He was employed by Ford Motor Company for seven years and then the Chrysler Corporation where he worked as a financial analyst from 1955-1979. Don was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Greater K.C. Organ Club.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Zumwalt Werremeyer and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marguerite Zumwalt of the home; daughter, Jean Zumwalt Muhm and son-in-law Bruce; four grandchildren: Kent Werremeyer, David Werremeyer, Sherelyn French, and Michael Bryant; two step grandchildren: Christine Noland and Kelly Brgoch; and 15 great-grandchildren.
