Micheal Alan Smith, 67 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will follow in Lobb Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday at the chapel. Micheal was born April 1, 1956 in Kansas City, MO to John F. and Shirley J. (Kaiser) Smith and has been a life long area resident. He had worked as an electrician as a foreman for Shaw Electric and later for Fisher Electric until he retired in 2019. He was a member of the IBEW local #124 for over 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed metal detecting and collected coins, knives and marbles. He was married to Monica Jean (Payne) on April 4, 1996, until she passed away on August 1, 2005. Survivors include; a son, Luis Benavides and Amber Williams of Grandview, MO; 2 daughters, April D. Smith and Rebecca L. Payne both of Independence, MO; his mother, Shirley Weaver of Sugar Creek, MO; a brother, Steve Smith and wife Diane of Independence, MO; a sister, Nancy McQuillan and husband Joe of Independence, MO; a brother-in-law, Geoff Clark of Excelsior Springs, MO; 2 nieces, Sarah Smith, Ashley McQuillan; a nephew, Alex McQuillan; 5 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, cousin and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, John Smith, and a sister Barbara Clark.
